About a month ago, a rumor from EETimes came up. It said that Xiamoi will modify the design of custom CPU that used on their gadgets. The Chinese manufacturers will cooperate with Leadcore Technology, a Chinese fabless semiconductor company that provides system-on-chip solutions for smartphones and tablets.
If Xiaomi can design their own CPU, they will have the freedom to customize their solutions for their end users. No longer depending on CPU manufacturers like Qualcomm or Mediatek.
Now, the rumor was reconfirmed by researcher from IHT Technology China. He said that the next Redmi device will be powered by Xiaomi's chip. According to the researcher, the Xiaomi chip will offer the equal performance to the current Qualcomm chip that powered Redmi. It will be even more powerful if compared to Leadcore LC1860 SoC that is used by Redmi 2A.
Interesting. Apple has their own CPU. Samsung also. Xiaomi is on the way. Who's Next?
